Transformation Story:
This family of four leads an active lifestyle with some demanding garage storage requirements. Their classic Etobicoke townhome doesn’t have a basement for storing many of their belongings so they were looking to a garage remodel and renovation which would accommodate the expanding storage requirements of their growing family.
With 2 active professional parents and two young children, they had some typical family demands. The kids run through the garage daily to enter the family home. So, a space which would be aesthetically pleasant, durable and easy to maintain were important to this fully finished garage space. But, their top priority was shoe storage so everyone could have them off before entering the home.
To start, the electrical panel needed a custom cabinet covering to hide this unsightly eye sore but it also needed to keep the electrical safely behind lockable doors so it would be away from curious or clumsy young hands. Beside the doorway to the interior, a slatwall organization system with baskets was installed so gym and school bags could be dropped off and aired out in the garage. And, of course, an extensive shoe storage system was made to measure so that foot wear for all occasions and for every family member would be stored there.
Of course, the cement garage floor was prepared for minimal moisture content and then had a durable and highly easy to maintain polyaspartic floor coating was applied so everyone could walk in from even the worst weather and floor could be easily mopped or hosed down. Next to the garage, we also finished a utility room. In this room, the family chose the Swisstrax Ribtrax floor tiles so that any excess water could drain through the tiles and the family could still walk on top of a dry floor tile.
The garage remodel included not only garage floor coatings or tiles but also, drywall and a combination of open and closed storage options. The closed storage for this garage included Iconic garage cabinets where they would store seasonal decorations and tools for small projects around the home. A workbench was included with the garage cabinet system so there would be a workspace for handy repairs and projects.
They also enjoy gardening so a slatwall organization system on one side of the garage offered space for garden tools which could easily be swapped out in the winter for shovels, snowblowers and salt to look after the winter walkways and the driveway. On the other side of the garage, another slatwall organization system with camlock hooks were installed to hang golf clubs and other sports equipment. For the bicycles, 5 MEC swivel bike racks were installed so that the bikes could be easily mounted and stored and then folded towards the wall so that there would be much more room for the vehicles to park inside the garage.
They also wanted a small shelf for storing a large oil canister and a fridge for the garage so we custom built a platform to fit the size and space of this unique storage request. We create made to measure storage areas so people can get exactly what they need. We finished everything with some fresh paint for the ceiling, walls and door trims. The family was extremely happy that they could get their garage storage made to meet their multitude of unique family storage needs.
