A Guide To Help You Get Rid Of Unwanted Mess In The Garage

January 21, 2023 by Rick Scully

With summer well on its way, now is an ideal time to declutter and reorganize the garage. Spring has long been representative of a fresh beginning, so it makes total and complete sense as to the reason spring cleaning is so popular around this time. A garage can be a very convenient storage space, particularly if you are short on space within the home. However, at times, it can turn out to be so easily over-cluttered to the point where you are struggling really hard to find anything.

If you would like to dig out the gardening equipment or bikes that have long been stashed in the garage for safekeeping, it may seem like an intimidating task in the beginning. However, you will be so grateful once your decluttering mission is finished and have a garage space to be proud of!

Beginning with a plan in mind is the most promising approach forward, not just will you be attentive, but the plan is also supposed to make the process more practicable. In this guide, we have outlined some of the proven tips that are sure to help you deal with the garage once and for all.

  • To begin with, get rid of the biggest things initially

This consists of items such as a lawnmower, a bike, a car, or any other large equipment taking up a lot of space. By getting rid of everything at first, you can see how much space you are working with. If you have an adequate amount of space, and tolerance, it is a good idea to take away everything and put each item on the driveway or in the garden. Like this, you can have a dedicated spot for different items, in which you can gradually search through everything you have, and work around this.

  • Throw away the things that are not in use

Once you have started getting rid of things from the garage, begin asking yourself whether you need to keep everything. Mull over the last time you brought something into play and whether you will bring it into play again. People usually keep things that they do not at all make use of. This is just for the reason that they do not want to part with them however this turns out to be counterproductive, so be merciless. Donate the things in good condition where possible and throw away the items that are not in use or broken.

  • Clean the space

When everything is out of the garage and you have a vacant space, it is an ideal time to give it a thorough clean. Without any doubt, you need not clean the garage to make it look spotless if it is being utilized just as a storage space. However, a quick sweep and dust will not go a miss. Giving it a clean signifies a fresh beginning and provides you with a clean space to work with.

  • Split the entire space into sections

By sorting everything, it makes the task of putting the entire stuff back a lot more manageable. In addition, if you tag every item and stick to a storage system, you will find everything so much faster and simpler, averting a mess forming. When every item has a dedicated space, it turns out to be a lot simpler to stick to the system.

  • Get practical storage solutions

The final step is to make sure that you have some practical storage and put everything back. Tall shelving works wonders for garages and it offers a massive amount of storage without taking up too much floor space. Baskets and boxes can be stored on the shelves, putting items you make less use of at the top. Hanging racks are simply amazing for gardening equipment and bikes, again freeing up that all important floor space. The mess will turn out to be a thing of the past when storage is the best.

If you are in search of investing in a promising garage storage solution, look no further than Garage Tailors. We have a wide variety of options in terms of size and style, to suit every space. Things To Keep In Mind While Organizing Your Garage

November 25, 2022 by Rick Scully

Understanding the ways to organize a garage will help you declutter the space effortlessly. A day or two dedicated to clearing out and organizing the garage can help you take control of clutter so all your tools and gear fit neatly in one place. Are you ready to start cleaning your garage? Just keep on reading this blog post.

Have a comprehensive plan before you begin

A lot of things can happen inside of a garage. So, your initial focus should be to restore order. The experts at Garage Tailors suggest starting with a goal in mind. Do you need easy access to sports gear, or does your garage need to double as a storage space? Create a list of everything you would like to accomplish. You can even sketch out a rough plan of the final result. Then open the doors, back out the cars, and begin!

Clean the floor

The initial step of garage organization is to give the floor a good once-over with a broom or shop vacuum. Look out for any nails or other small items, oil, or chemical stains and any indication of furry or winged creatures that may have taken up residence in your garage. Once the workspace is clear, you will be ready to start sorting.

Organize the garage into zones

Garage specialists advise homeowners to pull everything out of the space and sort into zones to help you take inventory. A driveway is an ideal place for this. However, if there is not enough room, work on the garage in zones and declutter slowly. You will want to begin by grouping like items with like items. This may include things such as car supplies, sports equipment, and tools.

Think of zones like departments in a store, such as the tools section and the garden area. This will help you differentiate where each item “lives.” You can think as small or as big as you need to with this zone concept. You should also toss out anything that you know is trash and divide the rest of the items into two categories – keep and donate.

Plan garage storage

Once you have everything sorted, assess the garage storage space and begin placing items in their proper homes. Here are a few ways to create more storage space in the garage:

a. Utilize vertical space to store bikes and other large items.
b. Use what you have or purchase the right products to complete your space.
c. Make sure dangerous items – such as chemicals and tools – are stored in a locked cabinet,
especially if children are in the house.

Keep in mind that you should take stock of the items you plan to store in the garage before buying an organization system. Take a conservative approach and start with some basic organizers, such as shelving, then expand out as you see fit.

Maintain garage organization

The final step is to maintain your new setup by tidying up as often as you need to, whether that is seasonally, monthly, or even weekly. Garages are often high-traffic areas, so the more frequently you clean and organize this space, the less time it will take. A good rule of thumb is to reorganize your garage twice per year.

Understanding how to clean a garage will ensure that your space will look its best year-round. Are you looking for a specialist to transform your garage for more practicality and ample storage space? Contact Garage Tailors.

A Guide To Help You Convert Garage Into A Practical Space

November 4, 2022 by Rick Scully

Every inch of space in the house matters. The garage is not just the home for a car but even a room that one could leverage for storing different types of stuff. Tools such as rakes, hammers, and shovels deserve a safe spot in the garage, but they will not fit if there is no space to accommodate them. Luckily, there are a lot of smart ways to reorganize the garage and create some additional space. It is a tiresome task that may necessitate the services of a service provider.

However, if you are thinking of organizing the garage into a practical space as a DIY project, the following are some of the tips to help you get started.

Heavy-Duty Racks

A few items, such as vehicle tires and concrete blocks, are too heavy to be kept in normal cabinets and shelves. Heavy-duty racks are made of sturdy steel designed exclusively to hold heavy things in place. A typical heavy-duty rack can bear more than 200 kg in total weight.

Versatile Storage Units for the Lateral Walls

These necessitate good designing skills for the utmost space usage. A side wall unit could go wrong with the wrong measurements. A well-designed side wall storage compartment isn’t only attractive but can even tolerate a lot of weight. It even allows you to hang tools onto carefully positioned hooks.

Monkey Bar Storage Compartment

The same as the side wall storage compartment, a monkey bar wall unit is a strong unit with sturdy solid steel bars carefully bolted on the garage walls to provide additional storage room. Its strength is unbelievable and can store heavy tools, including wheelbarrows. Its design makes it appropriate for accommodating more stuff, such as storage bins.

Systematized Workspaces & Dedicated Stations

A dedicated station is a space utilized to keep tools and equipment that perform similar tasks. A systematized workspace is where you will be running your activities from. It is supposed to be equipped with accessories such as general tools, an office table, and a dustbin to keep away from any frequent movement.

Shelving

Cabinet and shelves offer additional space for storing smaller items such as detergents, hand-held tools, and car care products. The following are a few ideas that might help:

a. Corner Shelves – These help to make the most out of the corners. They involve nailing cleats to the wall to support plywood holders. Corner shelves are very easy and affordable to construct.

b. Wire Shelves – A wire shelf can be fitted across the wall at a convenient height to hold items in an arranged manner.

Shelving necessitates a smart approach. Top shelves are supposed to be designated for items that are seldom utilized.

Floor Spacing

Floor space is most likely the most significant asset any storage room could have. With a clear floor space, it is simple to clean and move around. Clear as much space as possible by pushing things to the corners and walls. In addition, make sure that the floor is free from dust and clean to avert damage. You can hire a garage specialist such as Garage Tailors for planning and renovation. It could help increase the floor space and give it a fresh new look.

Give Your Garage a Fresh New Look

Systematization of the garage is the 1 st step to creating extra room for storing other stuff. With careful design and planning, the garage can have a lot more space than you could visualize. However, always keep in mind that safety comes first. Store everything as recommended in order to keep you and your family safe.

At Garage Tailors, we are here to help you. You can always count on us whenever it comes to maintaining, repairing garage doors or organizing the garage to get some additional space. When you select the right company for your garage systematization, door installation, or anything else, you do not have to worry about anything. Did You Select The Right Door For Your Garage?

September 3, 2022 by Rick Scully

For a beautiful and fully functional home, you simply can’t miss selecting the right door for the garage. Before you see catalogues and read about all the options available to you, you should make a checklist of everything you need to think about before you make a decision. There is no doubt that a variety of garage doors are available to you in the market today. But variety can even cause confusion. Since garage doors are a long-term investment, you should look through all aspects of garage doors before you make a decision.

If you are in the market for a door for your garage, this is the ultimate guide for you. We will cover everything you need to be familiar with to make the right decision.

Let us begin!

Choose the right style

In today’s day and age of design consciousness, garage door styles are far from functional. If the exterior of your home is exquisite, do not forget the exquisiteness of your garage door. A garage door that does not goes with the exterior of your home may make the entire structure lose its appeal. When it comes to selecting the garage door, simply opting for the right mechanism is not enough.

If your house is going for an elegant minimalistic look, go for classic ivory garage doors. You can even go for an elaborate door to beautifully contrast the exterior of your home. If you would like to make your house stand out, you can go for a custom-built door for your garage.

Always keep insulations in mind

In the majority of urban and semi-urban areas, garages are connected to the rest of the home. Often, the option to common areas such as the kitchen or the hallway. They are even sometimes open to a bedroom. This is the reason insulation turns out to be an essential part of garage door installation.

Insulating the garage will make sure the overall comfort of your home. At the same time as planning the insulation of your garage doors, you will even come across the R-value and the U-factor of the garage doors. Both of these measurements are vital. Even though the U-factor measures the flow of heat through the material, however, the R-value suggests the capability of the material to resist the flow of heat.

Always keep in mind that ideal insulation should have a high R-value and low U-factor.

A lot of old homes do not have insulation for their garage. However, it is always advised to insulate the house because of the following reasons:

  1. It makes the garage door more energy efficient
  2. It offers soundproofing qualities
  3. It keeps the house feeling more comfortable
  4. It even adds to the overall durability of the garage door
  5. It helps to reduce the loss of heat during cold months

You can go for polystyrene and polyurethane insulation. They are the most common types of insulation available in the market. Polystyrene insulation offers a relatively quieter operation but is not the popular choice because of the lack of energy efficiency. Polyurethane, on the other hand, is an energy-efficient material that is even quieter and best suited to homes located in extreme climates. You should always go for an expert opinion while mulling over the insulation for your garage.

Select a practical door type

It is easy to get carried away by the look and style of the door and compromise on functionality. If your house is an old structure, use a lighter garage door material so the structure of your house does not collapse with the weight. Weather and lifestyle play a major role in determining if the garage door suits your needs. It is advised to take professional help while finalizing and installing the door.

Do not overlook care requirements

Simply installing a door is not enough, you must also make time to offer care. Even though selecting the right door will reduce the number of care requirements, however, there are a few steps you can take to make sure that the garage door keeps functioning properly:

  1. Oil the parts of the garage door from time to time
  2. Gently clean the surface to keep away from dust from stealing away the sheen
  3. Fix dents right away before they solidify into the structure
  4. Tighten up the hardware
  5. Inspect and replace the rollers when needed
  6. Check the cables regularly
  7. Test auto-reverse features
  8. Clean the tracks
  9. Replace the rubber weather seal strip in case it is cracked or kinked

Keeping all these things in mind will help to make sure that your garage door will last for years to come.

Make sure that it fits your budget

With so many modern garage doors available, it is easy to get carried away and lose track of your budget. The right installation company will guide you correctly and help you steer clear to overspending. Make a budget keeping in mind your expectation from the garage door and pay for only the features that you actually need for your home.

Make sure that the size is right

The size of the garage door also determines its efficiency to operate. A smaller garage door will leave gaps causing loss of energy and discomfort. A bigger door, on the other hand, will hinder operation and eventually cause cracks and weaken the entire structure.

Evaluate maintenance efforts

Your choice of garage door material will even determine your maintenance efforts. However, it is essential to know that if not the garage door, then at least the garage door springs and other components require maintenance efforts. It is always good to choose a company that offers a warranty and quick repair in case of ill-performing garage doors.

When you select the right company for your garage door installation, you do not have to worry about anything. Feel free to give a call to Garage Tailors at 416 (617) 7551!

Do I Really Need A Garage Cabinet System?

July 20, 2022 by Rick Scully

When it comes to keeping a garage organized properly, overhead racks, shelving, and a slatwall hanging storage system will help to a great extent. Effective garage storage systems that offer a home for everything avert untidiness from building up. They even make it simpler and effortless to keep a garage organised and orderly with significantly very less effort.

With a lot of options to choose from when it comes to upgrading the storage capabilities of a garage, there is one option you might be ignoring – a garage cabinet system.

There are a lot of homeowners who believe a garage cabinet system simply is not for them. Maybe you do not spend an adequate amount of free time in the garage to accept such a purchase would be worth it as true.

You might be under the impression that storage cabinetry is meant exclusively for garages that are owned by the ones with a big tool collection and the ones who love working with their hands. At the same time as a garage cabinetry system is ideal for garages where the maintenance of a vehicle and carpentry projects take place on a regular basis, the fact is that every garage can take advantage of having a cabinet system.

The following are some of the key reasons to mull over a garage cabinet system for your home, no matter how handy you are with a hammer:

Keep your garage tools systematized with the right cabinetry system

The larger the tool collection gets, the harder it is to keep systematized if you do not have a decent storage system in place. After a while, that large tool box simply will not cut it anymore.

You need to invest in a cabinet system for your garage that has been designed by a professional and will help you enjoy the benefits that come with keeping the tools arranged properly.

  1. Set up your workspace to have the tools you make use of the most, close at hand
  2. Your workspace will be less cluttered
  3. You will spend less time rummaging around for tools

A professionally-designed cabinet system for your garage will help store hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and a variety of other tools stored in drawers and behind doors, which will ultimately extend their life. They will be less exposed to rust-causing moisture, grime, and dust.

Add value to your home with a premium cabinetry system

For the reason that a cabinet system for your garage will help to curtail or get rid of floor mess, you will be capable of easily parking the vehicle inside, where they actually have the right place. That signifies your garage is serving its key function and offering full worth to your family year after year, not just being utilized to store useless junk.

A garage that is simple to maintain and allows for unproblematic vehicle parking is a strong selling point for any purchaser every time you make your mind up to move. That indicates added value to your property.

Any garage with a premium cabinetry system will even project a more impressive, professional appearance. When compared to the unsightly look a messy garage with an obsolete décor and cheap storage systems projects, prospective buyers will take notice.

Enhance safety of your garage with the right cabinetry system

Usually, a cluttered garage even serves to be a place that is not safe at all. With things spread out all over the place and tools leaning up against the walls, tripping and leaking hazards flourish. The floor of a garage that is beleaguered with several things even poses the danger to those things from a vehicle, not to mention the vehicle itself potentially being dented, scratched, and scuffed.

Rounding up that mess with improved cabinetry system will lessen that safety concern. A garage even encompasses several kinds of hazardous materials and chemicals such as containers of automotive fluids, cleaning products, pesticides & fertilizers, and paints & solvents that can be kept in a cabinet system with optional locking drawers and doors.

Do not miss to make use of cabinet doors and drawers to store sharp tools safely tucked away that will make it further childproof.

Get rid of unwanted mess with a beautiful garage cabinetry system

One of the undeniable advantages of having a cabinet system for a garage installed is that it will significantly cut down on your floor mess. Even if you have got a bigger 2 or 3 car garage and available storage space is not a pressing issue, that garage floor mess can still be an obstinate annoyance.

No matter if you are tripping over mess or finding it hard to discover tools when they are required, there is a real practicality to taking away things from your garage floor and keeping them gracefully stored in the cabinet system of a garage.

When cabinetry is partnered with some of the professional storage systems such as slatwall panels, you will be surprised at how much nicer your garage looks and feels when it is free from all the mess. Keep in mind that you can keep the floor of your garage neat and clean by storing things such as recycle bins and garage cans out of sight behind the doors of the cabinet.

If getting rid of the untidiness of your garage and upgrading the appearance of your garage with a new cabinet system sounds like an appealing proposition, Garage Tailors can help. No matter what are your needs regarding the cabinet system of a garage, one of our world-class modular and custom-fitted cabinet systems is guaranteed to enhance your garage space.

Make Best Use Of Your Space With These Amazing Garage Storage Ideas

April 21, 2022 by Rick Scully

A wide range of excellent garage storage ideas will help you make the best use of your space and arrange everything you need to store. You will be capable of using the garage as a place to park your vehicles instead of as a dumping ground for extra stuff! At Garage Tailors we are known as being the trusted garage renovation company that will help you get your space in order. We have been the garage go to organizational professionals in the GTA for over 20 years.

Storage spaces could be the trickiest of all areas you have ever organized.
The reason?

  • It is simple for storage spaces such as basements and garages to be a dumping ground for all the things we do not know what else to do with.
  • Garages are supposed to fit loads of things, and much of it is miscellaneous and oddly shaped.
  • With how people often treat their garage, they are not pretty. It is not like we hang out in them and soak in the space.

But even so, we have learned that when our storage spaces such as the garage are practical and systematized, the rest of our house runs a lot more smoothly as well. So, for that reason, the time and effort it takes to get them in order is well worth it.

The following are some of the tips to help you take full advantage of your space in the garage:

Choose wall shelves and wall organization systems to take full advantage of vertical space

One huge advantage that many garages have is that they offer a significant amount of vertical space!

If you also have the same and many things to store, you would like to use as much of the space as possible by picking to use a wall-mounted shelving system or also a slatwall system. This will allow you to take the shelving as high as you would like to, instead of shelves that sit on the floor and only go so high.

Use a track system for awkwardly shaped stuff.

Just a few things do not sit nicely on shelves. You have to stumble on a different solution for those strangely shaped pieces. We can install a slatwall organization system which is available in many different colors. Tons of different hooks and attachments can hold and store just about everything effortlessly.

Get bulky stuff off the floor with hooks.

When it comes to organizing the garage, many people would like to get as much off the floor as possible. You can utilize some of the many available hooks directly to the slatwall system to get some of your stuff, such as hockey equipment, up off the floor. It just keeps things so much tidier!

Use metal shelving units if hanging shelves is not an option

If you have concrete block walls that are not conducive to wall-mounted shelves or are renting and would like something you can take when you leave, you will love some super sturdy metal shelves. They will not even get warped over time.

Even though the metal shelves are a bit of an investment up front, you will love that you never have to worry about them giving out or falling. And they can hold a ton of weight so that you can put just about anything on them without any worries.

Include a small workstation to utilize for hobby projects

When planning or organizing a garage, you can ask your garage reno company for a spot that they might recommend a space for a workbench where you can sit and take notes or work out ideas at the time of doing projects in the space. You can integrate a small desk area and rolling stool into the design and use them repeatedly.

Opaque bins help hide unsightly stuff.

Opaque bins or clear bins?

age a decent amount. Every time you enter or exit the house, you have to walk through the garage. While ding yard work or playing outside, the garage door will often be up, and neighbours can easily see in.

And if quite a lot of people are going to look at your stuff daily, you would like it to look tidy. Opaque bins are lovely for hiding all of your necessary-but-not-pretty stuff and making them look systematized and well-structured. These bins can also be hung using a 4” Double Hook on the slatwall system.
Organize different stuff into zones

At the same time, as it may be tempting to throw everything into bins and stick them wherever they will fit, the garage will be much more functional if things are arranged into specific zones with like items. You can create different zones to be sure everything will fit neatly. Count on a trusted garage organizational company to come up with the best solution for your garage.

Place everyday stuff lower and seasonal stuff higher.

In an ideal world, we would have everything within arm’s reach, but we usually store so much in the garage that it is just not possible. Due to this, try to be strategic when planning where everything will go. Keep the stuff you often use – and mainly stuff that your children often use – on lower shelves that are easy to reach without a ladder or stool.

Stuff that you use more seasonally – such as fishing gear or sleds – go up higher because you do not need to access them as frequently.

At Garage Tailors we specialize in finding the best storage system and solution for your garage. We can build you an overhead storage unit that is customized to fit your specific space and needs

Store lawn care stuff near the garage door

Sooner or later, you will know how much simpler it is to do yard work because your lawn care stuff is neatly arranged. You will often come in and out to get the lawn tools you need. So, all gear must be right next to the garage door for easy access.

With a bit of creativeness and resourcefulness, even the smallest garage can store your belongings in conjunction with a place to park your vehicle and workspace. To know how it can be done with custom-fit storage solutions by Garage Tailors, feel free to give us a call at 416.617.7551!

5 Top Reasons To Keep Your Garage Properly Structured

March 31, 2022 by Rick Scully

You are not alone if you have ever looked around to make out who is outside prior to opening the garage door. This part of the house gathers everything from garden supplies and tools to sports equipment and toys – a few of which most likely have not been used in years. Luckily, custom garage storage solutions by Garage Tailors change everything. When you are done systematizing, you might even have an adequate amount of space inside for your car!

Here is how a well-thought-out and properly structured garage will help

  • You can stumble on everything without any difficulty

Remember the last time you looked for the cleaning attachments for your utility vacuum, a head screwdriver or roll of duct tape?

Your storage preferences are more or less boundless – hooks, bins and small baskets on a slat wall system, or cabinets and drawers as part of a well thought-out and structured workbench. That means less time spent searching for your stuff. You might even save money on duplicate things such as screws, tape, nails, and weed trimmer lines all for the reason that you can now come across what you already have.

  • Costly stuff stays safe

For such a disorganized space, the garage surely does hold a little costly stuff. Bicycles do not come cheap, and neither do garden and lawn equipment or power tools. And then there is the most expensive one: your car or any other vehicle.

With a properly planned garage, costly stuff stays safe. The paint of your car will not get chipped from a bicycle falling against it, or from your kids, by chance, riding their scooter, electric toy car or tricycle into it. During the procedure of sorting out the garage, you will get rid of toys your kids have grown out of, and you will hit upon a protected place for what they still use.

Other lawn equipment, exterior furniture and tools can be securely kept within cabinets or on wall mounted storage accessories so they will not fall off a shelf or land in a heap in the corner.

  • Dangerous tools and equipment stay safe

Garages also have a few dangerous tools and equipment that you would like to keep safe from the little hands and prying eyes of children. Dwell on any electric or gas garden tools that you have, such as a hedge trimmer or chainsaw. Power tools such as circular saws and drills also need protection. Not to mention any rock salt or fertilizers that you keep in this space.

  • The entire garage will look airier and cleaner

Yours is not the only home on the block with a disorganized garage. It makes sense, really – the space is just a traverse from your car – if you are fortunate and you have got space for it – to your house, and a place to store outdoor equipment. So its neatness and orderliness – or lack thereof – does not have an effect on your lifestyle as much as an untidy house world. That is a bad amalgamation, but one that is uncomplicated to remedy.

Regardless of how many times you clean the floor, untidiness looks dirty, and it can even create a centre of attention for frightening critters such as mice and bugs. When you put your garage in order, the entire space looks smart and stays free from bugs and dirt.

If an uncluttered garage looks airier, that is for the reason that it actually is. Piles of loose stuff and boxes lying about take up extra space as compared to wall-mounted storage shelves, cabinets, and systems that make the best use of wall space and keep things off the floor.

  • Make good selections simpler

Anybody can get organized. It is staying structured that is the bigger trick. You are more expected to do it when something is convenient. That applies to almost everything from sorting the mail and hanging up your coat to putting things away in the garage.

Convenient storage encourages kids to place their toys away rather than tossing them on the garage floor and makes it effortless for you to put the drill back in its place and set all of the vacuum tools on the shelf where they go.

In a lot of homes, warm weather makes the garage almost a revolving door. Kids run in and out grabbing balls and bikes, and you will spend weekends working on projects and most likely washing the car. Wouldn’t it be amazing to open the door and not worry about what the neighbours might assume? Much more important, visualize a space where everything has a place, and there is room left over for a vehicle or two.

With a little creativeness and resourcefulness, even the smallest garage can store your belongings, in conjunction with a place to park your vehicle and workspace. To know how it can be done with custom-fit storage solutions by Garage Tailors, feel free to give us a call at 416.617.7551!

A Detailed Guide To Help Keep The Garage Properly Organized

February 28, 2022 by Rick Scully

For the majority of homeowners, garages are personal storage facilities – without any additional expenses. However, after a short time, they often become untidy with everything from outdoor patio furniture, tires, multiple bicycles, kids sports equipment and ancestral tools that you simply can’t seem to part with.

Even though garages are utilized for stockpiling stuff and parking vehicles, however, in the long run, you may stumble on yourself falling down a rabbit hole of needless baby strollers, toys, Christmas decorations, or other things taking up the parking space. Putting the garage in order may look like a very big challenge, but there is light at the other end of the organization tunnel.

Our team at Garage Tailors can help you come up with organized garage designs that may include everything from an overhead storage unit, wall organization systems or cabinets.  We would like to let you in on some of the most effective tips to administer and systematize the garage space. The following are some of the most promising tips that can help you deal with the mess in the garage:

  • Plan it out

It can be overwhelming to jump right into organizing the garage. In particular, based on how untidy it is, or if there is some stuff in there that holds a little sentimental importance and you would like to keep them. Go through the garage and write down what you would like to keep and the stuff that you do not mind throwing for trash pickup.

Ensure that you put everything out on a day when the waste is planned for pick-up so that the stuff does not mess with your yard or the street.

  • Make it a day

The same as any other big job on your plate, you should plan a day of the week to clean the garage. Decide a day when you can put all the other things off until you conclude the task. It does not all have to be performed in a single day – you can make it a habitual day that you devote to exclusively de-cluttering the garage until it is finished.

  • Ask for some assistance

If you discover that organizing the garage is too big of a task for you to deal with unaccompanied, you can always call in assistance. Request your family or friends to give you a hand in cleaning out your garage. More hands are better than none when you need assistance, and asking family and friends can help the task get completed in advance of the plan.

  • Mark zones

When it comes to putting anything in order, you would like to dwell on the way you will split things and where to put them during splitting. If you have got quite a few things that are associated with one another such as seasonal decorations or fitness equipment, then you should mark a zone for where you will store the things once the garage is structured.

  • Put in practical storage solutions

Our garage organization service will be sure to provide you the help you need to get things in the garage properly and efficiently stored. We will use our 20 years in the garage organization business to provide you a solution that is designed to cater to both your personal needs and the actual space of your garage based on the height, weight, and size of the specific stuff you are keeping. Solutions such as overhead storage units, shelving, hoists, tool cabinets, and wall racks provide tidy-looking solutions to uncomplicate your life.

  • Tag Your Storage Bins

The garage management professionals commonly come upon places that are messed up for the reason that there are not any labels to recognize stuff. Have you tried seeking something in the garage, and left with it looking more cluttered than before for the reason that you had to look around every box simply to stumble on one item?

Putting labels on your bins will help you reduce the time and effort that it takes to search through the stuff without difficulty and discover them quickly without having to make an even bigger clutter of the garage.

  • Decide an outline

Based on the size of the garage, you may be capable of forming an outline that works wonders to fit the vehicle and keep a large number of things. Make a decision where you would like everything to go, and leave an adequate amount of space to park the vehicle and an adequate amount of place to keep additional bits and pieces in the future.

Leave items you need at eye level and put other things that you just make use of seasonally on higher shelves for ease of access.

Five Reasons to Install an Epoxy Garage Floor Coating

January 27, 2022 by Rick Scully

Are you thinking that it’s time to do something with your damaged and weathered garage floor but not sure what the options are?  The best option that you should look at when your garage floor needs an update is a coating.

An epoxy floor coating can turn your floor from the current dirty and pitted floor that it is into a brand-new looking floor.  Our epoxy coatings are useful for preserving concrete surfaces and protecting against harsh impacts — at a fraction of the cost of removing and replacing your floor with a new concrete slab.

Coating the floor of your garage, basement, cold cellar or a commercial space will provide you with many benefits. Epoxy floor coating will seal your floor to help minimize the dust both in your garage and inside of your house and is resilient to the everyday wear and tear that your floor is exposed to bringing a feeling of wow to your garage while also providing a level of safety. Have you thought about but put off coating your garage floor, then now may be the time for you to consider calling the professionals at Garage Tailors about adding an epoxy coating?

What Is Epoxy Floor Coating?

Epoxy floor coating is a two-part system made of a coloured base resin and a hardener. As the base resin and the hardener are mixed, they will form a chemical reaction that gives your floor a brand-new look.  The process of adding a coating to your garage floor is that it will seal and cure the concrete surface by forming a firm bond between the concrete slab and the epoxy product itself.  If this sounds like what you are looking for, keeping reading about the many advantages of our epoxy floor coatings to help decide if our services are the right choice for your garage.

  1. Hiding cracks and pitting

Once an epoxy floor coating has been added to your existing floor slab you will notice a considerable difference in the lighting of your garage.  The clear topcoat will now reflect the light substantially making it much safer when you get out of your car at night while also making the space feel much bigger as well.

Most new garages will have some cracks in the garage floor slab due to shifting while some older homes will have much more damage to them such as pitting.  Our process is not just about adding a floor coating, we first repair all cracks with our hardening slurry as well as any significant and major pitting.  We then apply a solid colour base coat, a decorative flake system with 100% coverage of the slab (many colours to choose from to fit your personal preference). The addition of the decorative flakes will also help to hide the imperfections from the divots that may be present in your floor.

Our decorative flakes are made of vinyl, come in a wide variety of colours, are ¼” in size and our added to the base flake to ensure 100% coverage so that there a no bare patches.  Our epoxy floor coating with a full decorative flake system is guaranteed to transform your garage floor into something that you’ll be sure and tell your friends about.  Our floor coating system will take less than a day to install from start to finish.

  1. Cost Effective

If your floor needs replacement, an epoxy coating is a considerably more affordable option compared to removing the existing slabs and replacing it with a new one.  Epoxy is also more cost effective than adding vinyl tiles as tiles will not stand up to things like water, salt and chemicals.  As soon as vinyl tiles are exposed to these elements they will begin to lift, peel, and discolour.  A new looking epoxy coated garage floor will be the most cost-effective solution that you will find that is guaranteed to last.

If your garage floor is causing you stress, then look no further than the benefit of transforming it with an epoxy coating.  Our prep and installation process will be so efficient that it will be completed before you return from the office.

We also want you to rest assured that we do not use a DIY kit from the bog box stores and use only industrial grade products from Sherwin Williams that are guaranteed to stand up to daily wear.  Having our team at Garage Tailors complete your garage floor transformation is sure to bring you years and happiness without the hassle of yearly maintenance that comes with a painted floor.

  1. Salt/Chemical Resistance and UV Stable

An epoxy coating will ensure resistance to the many kinds of things that your garage floor slab is exposed to such as salt, chemicals (oil and gas) and heat from the tires also known as hot tire pick-up). It’s also great for garages as it will not yellow from the suns UV rays.

Salt

Due to our winters in Ontario, salt is the major contributor to most of the damage to garage floor slabs.  Given that salt usually is applied to our roads and subsequently tracked into our garages in November and will stay there till washed out in March or April, it’s allowed to have up to 5 months to eat away at the concrete.

Our epoxy coatings are guaranteed to not break down from salt and so you’ll never have to worry about if your floor will become pitted ever again and will maintain its finish for many years to come.

Chemical (oil and gas)

Given that garages are where we often fill our lawn mowers with oil and gas as well as any spillage from our vehicles, your garage floor will benefit from a chemical resistant epoxy floor coating.  Or maybe you are someone who use your garage to work on your car so it’s exposed to other chemicals such as brake fluid, not to worry as our coatings are guaranteed to stand up to these fluids as well.  And if you drop a wrench while doing your maintenance, our coatings have a high level of shock and impact resistance as well.  To lean up any chemical spill all you’ll need is a rag and possibly some rubbing alcohol if it’s been sitting there for a while

UV Stable

There are many types of epoxies on the market from DIY kits to the 100% solids that are offered by trusted brands such as Sherwin Williams.  When choosing to install an epoxy coating one of the important things to consider is whether the product is UV stable.  Choosing to go with the cheap DIY kit or maybe even something from a commercial supplier that’s not 100% solids will most likely leave you with a floor that will yellow or amber from the suns UV rays.  This yellowing may happen as soon as a month or possibly a year, but it will happen unless you have a written guarantee from your installer like the one offered from Garage Tailors.

Heat (Hot Tire Pick-Up)

Another benefit of using Garage Tailors is that we use a product that is guaranteed to withstand the heat from your tires and will not leave brown stains from the hot rubber.  Like the UV stability issue, our epoxy coating is guaranteed to not breakdown from the heat of hot tires by either discolouring or weaken and break down where it delaminates.  Our epoxy coating can withstand heat of greater than 75 degrees Celsius.

  1. Durability

Once installed by our professionals, our epoxy coating will not need to be redone for an extended amount of time and we offer a 10 year written warranty to back this up. The coating is guaranteed to endure the wear and tear from your vehicle and all other everyday usage while maintaining its glossy and reflective appearance ensuring long-term satisfaction.

  1. Ease of Maintenance

Most people lead very busy lives both professionally and personally so having a floor coating solution that doesn’t require maintenance is often a big decision-making factory for many of our clients.  Once you’ve made the decision to go with an epoxy floor coating, the only thing that you’ll have to do (if you choose to) is simply take your garden hose and spray your floor every spring and fall, it’s as easy as that.  Given that untreated concrete will continuously emit dust, by adding an epoxy floor coating you will eliminate much of the dust that is tracked from your garage into your house.

If you are looking for a floor coating system that is cost effective and sure to last, trust the professionals at Garage Tailors to take care of you and your garage floor.
